Trail guide
Which 2048 trail will you take?
Compare the rules of nine Woodland 2048 modes. See which change the seed, goal, arriving tiles or merge rule, then choose a playable trail and exercise.
The board and controls stay familiar across this collection. What changes is the goal, the starting seed or the numbers that arrive and merge. Use this guide to pick a round deliberately, then read the rules beside its playable board.
Compare the rules
Classic 2048
The familiar four-by-four puzzle: slide equal numbers together and build a 2048 tile. Take your time; there is no clock or move budget. New tiles are 2s (90%) and 4s (10%). Double equal numbers; 2 + 2 makes 4. Play Classic 2048.
2048 Trail stages
Five repeatable trails take the same 2048 rules from a 128 target to a full 2048 summit. Every stage is open from the beginning, so you can choose the length that suits you. New tiles are 2s (90%) and 4s (10%). Double equal numbers, once per tile in a move. Play 2048 Trail stages.
Daily 2048
A new date brings a repeatable starting seed and one fresh reason to play. Daily follows Classic rules and aims for 2048; everyone using the same UTC date starts from the same seed. New tiles are 2s (90%) and 4s (10%). Double equal numbers; a newly merged tile waits until the next move to merge again. Play Daily 2048.
2048 Practice
Choose a small goal, practise one habit and finish a complete round. Practice offers targets of 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 and 2048 while keeping Classic movement and spawn rules. New tiles are 2s (90%) and 4s (10%). Double equal numbers, with each tile merging once per move. Play 2048 Practice.
Zen 2048
Every new tile is a 2. Zen removes the surprise of a newly arriving 4 while keeping the full four-by-four board, the 2048 goal and the need to manage space. New tiles are only 2s (100%). Double equal numbers; two 2s become 4, then two 4s become 8. Play Zen 2048.
Storm 2048
More 4s arrive in this woodland. Storm uses a 35% chance of a 4 and a 65% chance of a 2 on every spawn, compared with the Classic 10% and 90%. New tiles are 2s (65%) and 4s (35%). Double equal numbers, once per move. Play Storm 2048.
Reverse 2048
Start large and work down. In Reverse, matching tiles merge into half their value: two 2048s make 1024, and the final pair of 4s makes your winning 2. New tiles are 2048s (90%) and 1024s (10%). Halve equal numbers; 2048 + 2048 makes one 1024. Play Reverse 2048.
Sprint 256
Reach a 256 tile within 180 valid moves. Sprint adds a move budget to the familiar board, with a repeatable starting seed and no countdown clock. New tiles are 2s (90%) and 4s (10%). Double equal numbers, once per tile per move. Play Sprint 256.
3072
Follow the doubling ladder from 3 to 3072. Equal tiles still merge, but the values run 3, 6, 12, 24 and onward instead of starting at 2. This is an equal-tile 2048 variant. New tiles are 3s (90%) and 6s (10%). Double equal numbers; 3 + 3 makes 6, and 6 + 6 makes 12. Play 3072.
What every trail shares
A valid move slides the whole board. Equal tiles merge once per move, and a changed board receives one new tile. A blocked direction adds nothing. Reaching the selected goal wins; having no legal moves loses. Sprint also ends if its move budget runs out before the goal.
There is no timed countdown in any mode. A hint inspects a move without taking it. Local reviews replay recorded directions using the same rules as the original round. Themes, illustrations and motion options change presentation only.
Choose a useful next step
For a shorter round, start at a 64 Practice goal or the first Trail stage. To compare decisions, use a repeatable stage or Daily seed. For a rule change, try Reverse or 3072 and read the printed values carefully. More 4s in Storm and only 2s in Zen change the tile mix, not the board geometry.
Start in the game collection, learn the controls, then try an exercise in the practice lab. The field notes explain merge order, empty space and reviewing a round.
