Trail guide
Fibonacci 2048
Play Fibonacci 2048: neighbouring Fibonacci numbers join into their sum, 1 + 1 makes 2 and 2 + 3 makes 5. Climb the ladder to 987 on a familiar four-by-four board.
Fibonacci 2048 keeps the board and the moves but changes what may join. Instead of matching equal numbers, you join neighbours on the Fibonacci ladder: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 and onward. Two 1s also join. Reach 987 to win.

The board sits at the top of this page. Choose Start your trail, then use the arrow keys, a swipe or the direction buttons. If the board does not appear, open Fibonacci 2048 on the main board.
The rules of Fibonacci 2048
- Board: sixteen cells in four rows and four columns.
- New tiles: 1s (90%) and 2s (10%).
- Joins: two 1s, or two neighbouring Fibonacci numbers, join into their sum: 1 + 2 makes 3, and 3 + 5 makes 8.
- Equal numbers above 1 do not join: two 5s stay side by side.
- Goal: reach 987.
- A blocked move does not add a tile or count as a move.
Read three rows
Each example shows one row moved left, before the next tile appears elsewhere on the board:
Before: 1 1 2 3 After: 2 5 . . +7 points
Before: 2 3 5 . After: 5 5 . . +5 points
Before: 3 5 8 13 After: 8 21 . . +29 pointsIn the first row, the two 1s make a 2 and the 2 and 3 make a 5. A tile joins at most once per move, so the new 2 waits for the next move. In the second row, the two 5s cannot join each other; a 3 or an 8 beside a 5 can.
Plan along the ladder
Think in neighbours rather than twins. A large tile needs the tile one step below it on the ladder, and that tile needs the one below it. Keeping the ladder in order along one edge, for example 89, 55, 34 and 21, gives every new pair a place to join.
Fibonacci tiles show numbers instead of woodland pictures, because the joining pairs are easier to read from the values. In our seeded test rounds, reaching 987 took about as many moves as a Classic round to 2048.
Controls and saved rounds
Choose Start your trail, then use arrow keys, board swipes or the four direction buttons. Trail tip suggests a legal direction without changing the board. End round records an early stop; after an ending, New trail prepares another attempt. Your unfinished round and this mode's best score stay in this browser when storage is available. Changing a theme does not change a tile.
