How to play Woodland 2048

Learn the controls, scoring and merge rules of Woodland 2048, with a small worked example and clear instructions for saving or starting a new trail.

Woodland 2048 is a number puzzle on a four-by-four board. Slide the tiles in one direction. Equal neighbours can merge into a tile worth twice as much. Your goal is to make the 2048 sunshine tile before the board runs out of legal moves.

Start with two small tiles

Choose Start your trail to begin. Use the arrow keys on a keyboard, swipe across the board on a phone, or press the four direction buttons. A move shifts every tile that can travel in that direction, not just the tile you are looking at. After a move changes the board, one new small tile appears.

A blocked move does nothing: it does not add a tile or spend a turn. There is no timer, so you can inspect the whole board before deciding.

Understand a merge

Sliding this row left combines each pair once:

Before: 2 2 4 4
After: 4 8 . .

The new 4 does not immediately merge again in the same swipe. This example shows the row before the next small tile is added. Each merge adds its resulting value to your score, so these two merges add 12 points.

Use a tip, then decide

Trail tip suggests a direction without moving a tile. It is a suggestion, not a promise of a win. Optional sound starts muted. Direction buttons and keyboard controls work without sound.

Finish or return later

Reaching 2048 ends this edition with a win. A full board ends the trail only when no neighbouring equal tiles can merge. End round records an unfinished round as abandoned; New trail returns you to the start screen.

When browser storage is available, your unfinished round and best score remain in this browser. On a later visit, choose Continue your trail or Start fresh. Clearing browser data removes the saved progress.

For a practical next step, read the corner strategy, then return to the game.
