# 4096

4096 is Classic 2048 with the summit moved one tile higher. The arriving tiles, merges and controls are unchanged. Reaching 2048 does not end the round: keep building until two 2048 tiles join into a 4096 moon.

## Play

The board sits at the top of this page. Choose Start your trail, then use the arrow keys, a swipe or the direction buttons. If the board does not appear, [open 4096 on the main board](../index.html?mode=beyond#play).

## The rules of 4096

- Board: sixteen cells in four rows and four columns.
- New tiles: 2s (90%) and 4s (10%).
- Merges: equal numbers double, once per tile in a move; two 2048s make 4096.
- Goal: reach 4096.
- A blocked move does not add a tile or count as a move.

## Read the last merge

```
Before: 2048 2048 .  .
After:  4096 .    .  .     +4096 points
```

The same swipe also adds one small tile elsewhere on the board. The round ends as a win as soon as the 4096 tile exists.

## Room for two summits

A 4096 needs two 2048 tiles, so you build a second summit while the first one occupies a cell. Keep the first 2048 in a corner and line up the next ladder beside it along the same edge: 1024, 512, 256. A board with a 2048 and no organised edge fills quickly.

Expect a long round. Building 4096 from small tiles takes roughly twice as many merges as building 2048, and your round is saved after every move, so you can stop and continue later in the same browser.

## Controls and saved rounds

Choose Start your trail, then use arrow keys, board swipes or the four direction buttons. Trail tip suggests a legal direction without changing the board. End round records an early stop; after an ending, New trail prepares another attempt. Your unfinished round and this mode's best score stay in this browser when storage is available. Changing a theme does not change a tile.
